Multiple Interchange Envelopes
Description
Recently we have been receiving EDI files containing multiple interchange envelopes (ISA/IEA). These submitters appear to be using the interchange envelope as a functional group. Isn't the purpose of the intercahnge envelope to define the beginning and end of a file?

The X12 standards provide no definition or instruction regarding the assemblage of X12 interchanges into “file” units for transmission and storage. The question raised: “Can a single file contain multiple ISA and IEA segments” is not addressed in the X12 standards. Thus it is not a violation of the X12 standards to assemble multiple interchanges in a file.
