The Subscriber Address in Loop 2010BA shows AN. A Payer isn't able to accept any Special Characters from the Basic or Extended Character Set. Is this again the TR3 standards?
Provider is submitting the 837 with the 271 Patient/Member information. The 271 returns the period in the Subscriber Address. When the 837 is submitted with the period, the claim rejects because the Payer is not able to accept Special Characters.
Submitter of the claim is following the X12 Standards and submitting a period is allowed for a String / AN element, as long as the period is not used as a delimiter.
See B.1.1.2.2 and B.1.1.3.1.4 that reference the basic character set and character sets available for use in strings (element type AN).
B.1.1.2.3 Extended Character Set “Users should note that characters in the extended character set, as well as the basic character set, may be used as delimiters only when they do not occur in the data as stated in Section B.1.1.2.4.1 - Base Control Set.”
