Repeated Use of Segments with same Qualifier
Description
Question: The base X12 EDI standard does not specifically address whether repeated use of loops/segments with the same qualifier is permitted or not. Some industries, for example, rail transportation, have a need to use loops/segments with the same qualifier multiple times in the same transaction. Is this approach permitted or not in the X12 standard?
Scenario: In some industries some implementors are instructed to repeat the use of the loop/segment with the same qualifier/code. This is causing confusion for implementers of the healthcare TR3s which are unsure whether or not this is permitted.
