We are requesting interpretation for useage for the following:
Payor Paid Amount
2320 AMT01 = D
The TR3 does not specifically state that the AMT02 cannot contain a negative dollar amount, nor does it state can only be 0 or greater.
Please confirm if there is a specific way the money must be reported.
An amount actually paid by the payer that is listed in loop 2330B is reported as a positive amount in the AMT02 of the 2320 Payer Paid Amount AMT segment. The TR3 does not state that the AMT cannot contain a negative amount because there are business scenarios where a payment is not made and the Payer Paid Amount is a negative amount. Any questions about a payer's use of a negative amount must be pursued with that payer. In any case, the balancing rules in section 1.4.4.1 of the TR3 apply regardless of whether the Payer Paid Amount is a positive amount, negative amount, or Zero.
