276 BHT03 and 277 BHT03 both say it's the number assigned by the originator. Is the originator referred to in the 277 BHT03 the one submitting the 277 or the one who submitted the 276?
Maybe another way to ask it is, if Company A submits the 276 transaction to Company B with the BHT03=12345. When Company B returns the 277 to Company A, does Company B have to return the BHT03=12345 because that is what Company A submitted on the 276?
This issue is addressed in the 005010X212 guide. The BHT03 element identifies the transaction at the highest level and is used to reconcile a 277 with a 276 when status is returned at the 2200B and 2200C levels. It is the guide developer’s intent that the BHT03 value reported by the originator of the 276 request be returned in the 277 BHT03 element (Originator Application Transaction Identifier) for the purpose of reconciling the 277 with the 276. Use of the BHT03 value for high level transaction reconciliation in the 005010X212 is consistent with other paired request and response transactions (i.e. 270/271, 278/278).
The guide developers will review and work to enhance the reconciliation process guidance in the next version of the guide. The requester should also review HIR# 960 for additional information on transactional reconciliation and use of the 2200B and 2200C TRN values within that process.
